Srilankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of Oneworld airline alliance since May 2014. It was launched in 1979 as Air Lanka, following the termination of operations of the original Sri Lankan flag carrier: Air Ceylon. Following its partial acquisition in 1998 by Emirates, it was re-branded and introduced the current livery. The airline operates to 94 destinations, from its main hub which is located at: Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.

Captain Suren Ratwatte was appointed as SriLankan Airline’s new Chief
Executive Officer, on October 2015. He was an airline pilot for over thirty-years of experience in the field, whose first appointment was with the airline’s (SriLankan) predecessor: Air Lanka in 1984. Thereafter he joined Emirates in 1989, where he held several positions in the company. Captain Suren Ratwatte is a holder of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the author of several published works. He is also a well-known Human Factors researcher and practitioner, having published a number of articles and essays on the field. His expertise includes variety of senior instructional and management roles in Airlines; most recently was the Human Factors Manager of Emirates Airlines.

I was searching for reviews regarding the services and offers of SriLankan Airlines, and I’ve found tons of positive and negative reviews, coming from their passengers. Though most of them talks about how good the airline’s services were, some of them had a bit of problem regarding the airline’s policies, customer care and their meals. “The 1st leg (only 3 hours) was in a smaller plane and the in flight entertainment was a bit limited. Staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. The transit lounge in Colombo was on the small side and on the basic side. The Colombo/London leg was a fully reclining seat, with plenty of space. Staff again delightful. Food was a bit of a problem – sitting near the back of the Biz class cabin my choice wasn’t initially available but they managed to find another from somewhere. Movie choices were reasonable and the screen large and easy to see. We arrived on time and relaxed. The plus about an evening arrival was the terminal was not too busy however Heathrow did manage to lose a bag for a couple of hours which was nothing to do with the airline.”

“This is the only non stop flight from London to Colombo. It’s a over night flight and reaches Colombo mid day after 11 hours of flying . The air craft is a new Air bus and very comfortable seats and good leg space . Good choice of entertainment from the panel and choice of New Films. The service is very good and food is tasty with a choice of Asian foods. Alcohol is served with the meal and very generous with the portions , people tend to over do the consumption of alcohol as there is no restriction during the flight. The cabin crew is very accomadating and patient . I will fly with them again in the future.”

The airline offers good-quality services, from clean facilities, to approachable staff and crew, comfortable seats, to fast and smooth flight. Though many had an issue with the airline’s policies and other offers, I personally think that the airline is doing their best to amend those issues, in order to fix them, develop and make a better services for their next passengers to enjoy.
