Avianca

A National airline flag carrier of Colombia since December 1919. Avianca is headquartered in Bogota, D.C. with its main hub at El Dorado International Airport. Avianca also comprises a group of seven Latin American airlines, whose operations are combined to function as one airline using a code sharing system. Avianca is the largest airline in Colombia and the second largest in Latin America. It is considered as the second oldest airlines after KLM and is a member of the Star Alliance.

Origins and Ownership

Avianca ReviewsThe airline traces its history back to 1919, in the city of Barranquilla. The company accomplished their first flight between Barranquilla and the nearby town of Puerto Colombia, transporting 57 pieces mails.

The current CEO of Avianca S.A. is Hernán Rincón.

Hernán Rincón was involved with Microsoft in the position of President for Latin America and the Caribbean for 13 years. During his professional career, he was also President and CEO of Ferag Americas, a private Swiss company that develops, sells, installs and offers state-of-the-art technology solutions for the print media industry. He also worked for 11 years at Unisys, a provider of information technology solutions and services. Rincón studied Mathematics and Computer Science at New York State University. He has a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Andes University, as well as a master’s degree from the Kennedy School of Government and an MBA in Public Administration from Harvard, where he received the prestigious Edward S. Mason scholarship and participated in the U.S. Government’s Hubert H. Humphrey program.

We flew from Caracas-Bogota-Barranquilla and returned Cartagena-Bogota-Caracas in December 2015 and we were very impressed with the level of service, the new planes, and especially the impressive new terminal in Bogota. We had lived in Barranquilla 20 years ago and WOW has Avianca improved. It is very deserving of praise and has come a LONG way. We choose to fly Avianca because it is part of STAR ALLIANCE so we earned our Aid Canada Aeroplan points for the trip. In fact this Christmas we have decided to fly again with Avianca to Lima and Cusco and we hope for as great a journey. Stay tuned…..I will let you know.”

Great experience flying to Panama again. This time with one of my most favorite airlines Avianca. Panama is a new destination and I took the opportunity to visit Panam again, just because of the new finished canal! Conclusion

Avianca might be the second oldest airline in the world but that doesn’t mean that they are not giving their passengers the quality services that they deserve. With the modernisation of most of their aircrafts, Avianca surely is doing their best to meet the expectations of their passengers in this generation. Comfortable seats with a desirable legroom, delightful meals and snacks, clean lavatory and polite staff and crew. Flying with Avianca, must a wonderful experience.
